When I first dipped my toes into the world of 3D printing, I was equal parts excited and nervous. Would I break the machine? Would it be too complicated? But let factions let me tell you, those fears melted away the moment I fired up my Flashforge Adventurer 5M, a fantastic 3D printer I snagged on Amazon for just $279 (and it’s still on sale!). This little gem came with everything I needed to get started: a temporary roll of filament, all the tools, and even 3D printing adhesive. Talk about a beginner’s dream!

Setting it up was a breeze, and once I loaded the filament and picked my first print, I was hooked. There’s something magical about watching your ideas come to life layer by layer. It’s like having a mini factory right on your desk! The printer is surprisingly durable, too, which was a huge relief for a newbie like me who was worried about breaking it.
One of the coolest things about 3D printing is the sheer freedom it gives you. With the included software, its called “Orca-Flashforge”. I could design my own creations or download models online. I started small, experimenting with a couple of rolls of filament I ordered. My first prints were some adorable, flexible animals—a bunny and some rats—just to play around and test the waters. The results? Absolutely amazing! The flexibility and detail blew me away.
There are several types of 3D printers that are good. Creality makes good 3D printers too! There is a bundle they have going on right now through Amazon! Anycubic, Prusa, Bambu Lab… all great printers! I bought mine, the FlashForge Adventurer 5M because of how cheap it was, speed, and I can 3D print my own enclosure for it! I’m sure you can with the others as well, some come with an enclosure already. But, hey I didn’t know, because I am a beginner!

But the real magic happened when my teenager got involved. He’s a creative whirlwind, and when he wanted to plant his Venus flytrap, he didn’t just grab a boring pot. Nope, he 3D-printed a Super Mario pipe to house it. Watching that iconic green tube come to life and then seeing his Venus flytrap thriving in it? Pure joy. It’s moments like these that show how a tool like a 3D printer can spark creativity in ways you’d never expect.
What’s got me even more excited is the world of filaments out there. Beyond the standard PLA, you can print with carbon fiber for extra strength, wood-infused filament for a natural look, ABS (the stuff Legos are made of) for durability, and even super squishy TPU for things like tires or soft toys. I haven’t tried them all yet, but the possibilities are endless, and I’m itching to experiment. I did however land on a brand that I do like, and has done really well when I have made some prints. That is Sunlu 3D printing filament. Sunlu has so many colors to choose from. As well as FlashForge filaments too are amazing! I love their “Burnt Titanium” filament color!

With filament, you also want to get a dryer. depending on the type of filament you get. Some filaments like to absorb moisture from the air. And then when you print with it, it comes out all weird and deformed in sections. So, what you do is get a filament dryer like the one Sunlu has. You can store and dry your filament rolls and even use them directly from the dryer. So cool! Creality has a small single filament dryers too if you don’t want something this big.
